My wife Elizabeth, was watching Opera the other day and the author of Food Rules, Michael Pollan was on. I have to admit I got sucked in. Click on the link for a re-cap article of the book, it's the best re-cap I could find. Pollan gives some very straight forward rules for improving your diet while educating consumers on how poor our food supply has become. Here is a compelling statistic he sited-In 1960 Americans spent 18% of their family income on food and 9% on medical bills. Today Americans spend 9% on food and 17% on medical bills - due largely because of our poor diets and obesity related medical issues.
Here is the question we have asked many times when grocery shopping; is organic, hormone free, and free range worth the extra expense? Pollan's description of the quality of our food supply caused us to rethink our answer. Interesting.
