County Fair Report

As an involved and committed Pleasanton resident I feel compelled to go the County Fair every year even though I don't like it all that much. The people watching however is unmatched by any other event I can think of, so that alone is worth the price of entry. Plus the snow cones. Elizabeth and I rode our bikes over this afternoon (to save the parking fee) and were perusing the exhibits and we came across Sharon Miller's and Kay Speaks' entries. Every year Sharon enters in the fair competition in a couple categories, this year aprons and place settings. Sharon got second place for her apron, and I think you would agree with me she got robbed. Sharon's apron is the cool denim one on the left and the first place apron is the purple one on the right.
It was cool to see Sharon's stuff displayed.

This is Sharon's place setting, it won Judges' Favorite. I am no expert but I think Sharon's was the best one in this category too. I think I recognized a few things from Janine in there?
Kay had a Haiku in the competition and she won the Silver Award in her category. Below is her display and her ribbon. It's a beautiful poem about her ancestry, it was great that thousands of people were able to see it. If you e mail Kay I am sure she would share it with you. I am very happy to report that I have named Kay, Poet Laureate of Ralph's Blog.
That means I will be calling on Kay to
contribute a poem to
the blog every once in a while.
Congratulations ladies.
A couple random thoughts for this space: Saw Avatar last night, I don't get what all the fuss was about. The plot was totally predictable and it took two hours to play out.
My movie recommendation: Shutter Island.
I'm doing the Vineman 1/2 Ironman Triathlon next Sunday. I'm looking for a PR time of 5 hours 20 minutes.
