My Marathon Training

I hope this next entry doesn't seem to self indulgent but I wanted to give you an update on how my marathon training is going. The LA Marathon is March 21, two weeks from today. I started heavy training January 1 and I finished my last long run , 21 miles, last Sunday. I am in the "taper" phase right now, the time you let your body heal and recover before the race. This morning I ran 13 at sub race pace which was a welcome change from 21.
My goals for this marathon were 1. To get through the heavy training load without physical issues or injuries. I wanted to be able feel good through the training and not beat up and hobbled. On this goal I give myself a big check in the yes column. The way I accomplished this was through religious stretching and foam rolling, good eating habits, and a regular weekly recovery day.
Goal 2. Accomplish running the distance while enjoying the experience.
Goal 3. Run a 3:40 - This is my "B" goal, a time I will be happy with but if I miss it refer to
goal number 2.
I have an "A" goal that would be super cool to achieve but it's a bit of a stretch. I will let you know after the race what it was and if I accomplished it or not.
My story is not particularly unique, there are a lot of people in our company doing some very cool events. Iliana in our office is also getting ready for a marathon this month in Davis. Brian Amador ran a half marathon in February after quite a few year hiatus. Thirty-eight ClubSport Pleasanton members, led by Sandi Hernbroth, traveled to New Orleans to do a half marathon last week. In January I shared with you my first half of 2010 race schedule and I challenged you to plan some event for yourself this year. I'd love to hear what you came up with. If you haven't planned an event yet, now is the perfect time with a whole bunch of event possibilities in the spring and summer. If you don't know where to start, joining TEAM ClubSport is a great place for FRE, WC, and PLS associates. Let me know what you come up with, and I'll let you know how the race went.
