Food Drive- Lets Blow It Up

It's great to see we have the food drives going on in most our properties this holiday season and I am hoping we can just blow this thing up. How great would it be to be able to say we donated 1000 pounds of food, or 1 ton of food? It's such a simple thing for members and associates to participate in, and you know your donation is directly benefiting people in your community.
I was thinking about a few ideas to get you all thinking about some things we can do to make this a great food drive. I'm sure you can come up with much better, but what about a "You Can" tag line? You Can Cycle - bring a can of food to a cycle class. You Can Zumba, etc. Get the clever play on the word "can"?
How about if someone brings in a case of canned goods - less than $10 at Costco- they can get a guest pass. You Can get a guest pass.

Here is some info on the Food Bank
Alameda County Community Food Bank: http://www.accfb.org/about_us.html

Through a network of 275 strategically placed member agencies – food pantries, soup kitchens, child-care centers, senior centers, after-school programs and other community-based organizations – the Food Bank distributes enough food for 300,000 meals weekly.

Here is some info from the bay area Open Heart Kitchen, a beneficiary of the food bank.
Our guests come from all walks of life. Some are homeless, but unlike many urban “soup kitchens” Open Heart Kitchen guests are mostly the working poor. Many are low income seniors on a fixed income, single-parent families, and multi-generational families all struggling to make ends meet. At Open Heart Kitchen they find a free healthy meal in an environment that upholds their dignity. Open Heart Kitchen fulfills the most basic need of hunger in a dignified manner through 3 meal program.

We are currently serving about 15,000 meals every month.

In AV we are doing Socks for Jocks, also very cool. They have a whole lot of socks at Costco for pretty cheap too. Lets not be good with these drives, lets be great.
