The week started off with Julie Boswell in our office sharing that she got engaged over the weekend. The lighting is bad on the picture but the total joy on her face was too good to pass up, congratulations to Julie and her fiance. They plan on getting married sometime next fall-ish.
I was at the IDEA conference in downtown LA on Wednesday and Thursday. I enjoy going to this conference so I can see first hand what the trends are in group fit and personal training world. I can tell you that performance training or functional training are very hot. There was a lot of talk about getting the most of your weight lifting sessions by lifting heavier and taking little or no rest in between sets. Raise your heart rate and keep it up throughout your session. You'll create greater metabolic demands on your body therefore burning more calories while you are working out and hours after. TRX, kettlebell, and MMA had a lot of energy.
Zumba had a lot of interest on the trade show floor, so I don't see that slowing down anytime soon. No disrespect to our Zumba instructors and enthusiasts, but that's choreography I think even I can follow.
A quote I quote I liked from Peter Twist, "A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its original dimension"
At the K-Swiss booth that had a poster up with just WYAO on it. I asked someone there what it meant, it stands for "work your ass off". That flows very well with my point from above, if you work your ass off in your workouts looking good, losing weight, athletic improvement all takes care of its self. Next time you go out for a work out, commit to yourself you are going to WYAO.
Great to see we had good company representation at IDEA. First time attendee trainers there were Raelene Bravo (above), TRX specialist and body builder from PLS, and Shaun Ryan, MMA super trainer in ORG, and Dave Dunlap training legend from PLS. There may have been more but here are three trainers I know of making a commitment to their education, their personal growth, and their careers - great to see.
I ended my week by closing out sales, PT and property revenue numbers for July. A couple shout-outs. Aliso Viejo had an excellent sales month netting a great number of new members, great work AV crew. Fremont busted through to a new level on their PT numbers to a place they have never achieved before, so congratulations to the FRE fitness team.
Good week.
