So yesterday I did the race, I have to say I am happy with the outcome. I ran a 3:32:05. My first goal was to finish the race - check. My "A" goal was to finish under 3:30 and my "B" goal was to finish sub 3:40. I missed my "A" goal but I finished closer to my "A" goal than my "B" goal, so I am going to call that a victory as well. What I am most psyched about is I went out hard and gave myself a real shot at running sub 3:30 but I just could not hold the pace come miles 17-23. It got a little ugly (painful) in those miles, but that's when you learn who you are and what you are capable of. That is one of things I really like about these kind of events. I can see from my heart rate data that even though my mile split times were slowing, my heart rate was staying as high as when I was running faster, so I had to take the pace down. I will be geeking out on my numbers for a while, trying to learn more about my physiology and how to improve my performance.
The LA Marathon people have a great results page for participants, if you want to see mine go to Ralph's Marathon Results. It's all there, the good and the ugly. Thank you for the support and the well wishes.
