In athletics if you can anticipate where the ball is going or what your opponent is going to do next you will have an advantage on your competition. Probably one of the biggest differences between good and great is the ability to anticipate.
I was thinking about this concept in terms of our business and put into four buckets:
1. Anticipating the needs and concerns of our members and associates
2. Anticipating potential problems or shortfalls
3. Anticipating the next big trend or movement
4. Anticipating your supervisor's requests or questions
When you anticipate you head off trouble, and you generally make life easier for yourself. Isn't it worth it? How much time do you spend anticipating? Go to where "the ball" is going to be, not where it is now.
Do you have thoughts on the topic? Let me know.
